Our first session begins with sitting down and chatting about what brings you in for treatment. We will talk not only about your physical symptoms, but your life as a whole. I will take a detailed history and seek to connect to where you are in your life and well being right now.

 

It will then be time to take the pulse. The pulse is a major diagnostic tool in Chinese medicine and tells me many things about how your body is operating. It can tell me if certain muscles groups are injured or tight, if your organs are working efficiently, the state of your emotions, how you are breathing, if your nervous system is regulated, if you have had trauma, loss or going through major transition. Pulse taking can take a good 5 minutes. It is an essential part of treatment. It is the pulse that tells me how best to help you that day. 

 

After pulses taking we move on to treatment. Treatment can be very varied and depends on what I have received from your pulse. Some treatments I will be in the room working with you for the whole 40 minutes. Other treatments I will place the needles in and activate a channel and leave you to rest. Some treatments involve using warmth with moxa, others may involve gently bleeding a few points. I may use suction cups to free up certain areas or gua sha which is a massage tool used to free up the channels and improve circulation. 

 

Treatments may leave you with temporary cup marks or red dot patterns from the gua sha, but they are not painful and fade within a few days. 

 

Patients usually leave feeling relaxed yet energised, light and free.
